The Elusive and Exclusive Daphne Groeneveld

Daphne Groeneveld Photographed by Pablo Delfos.  Special thanks to Supreme Management
Rarely has a girl had such an impeccable start in the business, with booking after booking being marked by exclusivity with some of fashion’s most precise tastemakers. Yet in all of this, beautiful young Daphne remains a grounded Dutch schoolgirl. In this exclusive  Q+A , complete with a suite of previously unseen images by Pablo Delfos, Daphne gives a little peek into the charming young lady behind the super-glamorous fashion imagery.

Could you tell us a little bit about how you were discovered?
I was shopping with my mum at a department store when Anneriet, my mother agent, approached us and asked me if I had ever considered modeling. This was not the case, but she convinced me to do some test shoots. After those I shot my first editorial for Grey Magazine and then came the fashion week in Milan, where I walked my first shows, really cool.

Has the fashion world been close to what you expected or has it turned out to be a lot more different?
I did not really have a clear picture of the fashion world. Funny enough, a lot of people outside the business told me that it is a tough world where people are sometimes mean to each other, but my experience is the opposite;  I have met so many great people and made a lot of new friends. I love it!   I also did not know that it can be really hard work with many hours in a day, but when you’re with the team you all work hard to get the picture and hey, I’m young so bring it on!! ;-)

What’s your favorite thing so far about being a model?
I love traveling to all the great cities like New York, London, Milan and Paris. And working with the world’s best designers, photographers, stylists and all the other people is really amazing; they are all very kind and I have a lot of fun with them

How has working in fashion changed the way you dress?
Ha ha, I will never forget the first time that my mum and I arrived in Milan and proudly presented the content of my suitcase to my agents at Women. I don’t think that there was 1 piece that they liked (probably too Dutch), and the first thing that we needed to do was go shopping. So yes, ever since that day my personal style has been influenced by my modeling work, and much more up-to-date than before.

How would you describe your personal style?
I would say casual, comfortable and modern. But of course I also like to wear a nice sexy dress with high heels for special occasions.

What do you do for fun when you are not working Daphne?
As much as I love the modeling work, I’m always happy to return back home and meet up with my best friends, go see a movie or just meet and chat away. One of the things I like the most is to make silly movies or pictures with them. So funny!
